A DANCE OF PERSEVERANCE
A love of dance , a dislocated dream … How I carried on dancing .
What is perseverance ? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless . It is also about a measure of success , or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success . As students , our goals and directions dictate our personal success . We need perseverance to help us attain personal success . Perseverance is thus the ability to forge ahead despite obstacles that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed .
Here is a story of how I faced an obstacle and forged ahead to keep myself up . On the Second of June 2012 , our school put up an amazing musical named ‘ West Side Story ’. We had two shows , one in the afternoon and another in the evening . Halfway during the finale dance in the matinee show , my knee dislocated and I fell right on the stage in front of everyone . At that point of time , I could feel my heart racing and I felt rather disappointed with myself . I could feel everyone ’ s eyes on me , filled with worry and concern . My teacher ran in to help me up . I could not bear to walk out of the stage in the middle of a dance . I decided to hold on to the pain until I completed the dance . The lights faded , the curtains closed and I fell to the floor , my eyes filled with tears . Everyone rushed off to take their dinner and to prepare for the next show . The teachers , however , came to check on me . My family rushed up to the stage to check on my knee . They were telling me to skip the evening show , to go home and rest but I refused . To be honest , I was sure that staying with my friends and teachers would make me feel better . I stayed , we did the evening show and it was wonderful .
I went through much pain and I was quite disappointed with myself as I could not dance as well as I could . My dislocated knee was an obstacle to every dance move I tried to do . Even though I went through so much of pain , I did it for all my friends and teachers . Throughout the second show I had my friends holding my hand to give me support when I walked . They stayed with me and made sure that I had a friend who carried me just to make me sit . I had a friend who made sure I was not going through too much pain and I had the whole team to cheer me on . Not to forget , I had my teachers who were helping me out throughout the entire show .
A few months later , I went for an appointment at the hospital only to learn that both my knees had dislocated . I have been learning Dance for the past twelve years and now , because of my knee injury , I have to stop all dance lessons until my knees recover . Dancing has always been a big part of my life and now , my knees are an obstacle to me . I know that I will carry on dancing soon as my knees will eventually get better . It will soon become a reality to dance again .
