The Gribble family are a well-known family of solicitors in Penarth. Gwilym’s wife, Margaret’s sister, married Frederick John Latimer Gribble in Elstow Parish Church in Bedfordshire. We assume that that they married there as Frederick was a serving soldier at the time (Lieutenant & Adjutant in the RAMC). The family lived at 33, Westbourne Road, Penarth, and by 1911 the family had moved to 54 Plymouth Road. Frederick died just three weeks after his sister-in-law, on 28th October 1973 aged 88, at the Plymouth Nursing Home. The family address was given as 18 Archer Road, just a few doors from Margaret at No.10. An article appeared in the paper with the headline “ Death of Lieut., Gwilym Lougher.“ Much sympathy is felt with the family of the Lieut. Gwilym R Lougher, Relieving Oficer at Penarth and son of Mr & Mrs W Lougher, Llanvithyn Farm, Llancarfan, who passed away in hospital at Cairo on September 21st. He was in the engagements with the Royal Engineers at Souvla Bay, Egypt and Palestine. He is buried in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. Probate states that Gwilym was living at 21 Dinas Street, Cardiff, Lieutenant HM Army, died 21st September 1917 in Egypt. Administration (with Will) London 26th June to Margaret Lougher widow. Effects £1060. GWILYM ROBERT LOUGHER
