The Great War cost this Division 23,915 men killed, wounded or missing, it is hard to determine the
actual battle in which David Christpher Andrews was involved, which led to his death, but he died
of wounds, it is possible that he was actively involved in the Second Battle of Passchendaele which
was fought from October 26th to 10th November 1917. The next battle, of his Division was the
First Battle of Bapaume which started after this death. There was of course fighting going on, on a
lesser extent right the way through the War. On the day that he died, the US trooper “Tuscania” was
torpedoed off the Irish coast and 166 lives were lost, Venice was once again bombed and French
airmen bombed Saabrunkken junction.
