30dac was born out of my bedroom in the Caribbean island of Trinidad! Here I had created a makeshift mini studio for myself - my computer desk! I shared that small space in front of my monitor with my keyboard, mouse and paint palette. I liked being able to watch YouTube tutorials, listen to music and even watch movies all whilst practicing my new-found craft of acrylic painting.
I sucked. I had no formal art training and I had no idea what the heck I was doing. But somehow I really believed that I could do it - that I could be an artist. I had a desire, I believed I had a talent that remained to be seen and it always seemed logical to me that 'you won't know what you can do unless you try'. So, that's what I did.
At the start of April 2012, I challenged myself to complete 1 painting everyday for the duration of that month. As soon as I completed a painting I would share it on Facebook. I got alot of great feedback and encouragement from my friends and family. When the 30 days were up, I had an amateur portfolio of 30 paintings. I felt really proud of myself. I had accomplished this crazy goal I set. And more importantly, I had proven to myself that I was right - I could do it. And I did do it.
Soon after, I invited my Facebook friends to join in with me on this '30 Day Artist Challenge'. I created a Facebook Page and 30dac was born! It has now been 2 years since then. There are roughly 3-4 challenges per year enjoyed by artists from all over the world. And the challenge is not limited to painting, we have had photographers, musicians, poets, writers, jewelry makers and even a cake decorator!
The response continues to be positive and many of the artists who started back in 2012, still participate in the challenges to this day.
The focus of the 30dac challenge is mainly to help people discover their creative abilities, to help aspiring artists gain confidence in their talent and to help artists who have lost their creative vibe to get inspired and start creating again. Whether you are unsure about your creative talent or you feel you might be a little 'rusty', there's a place for you here at 30dac, to help you unleash your creativity.
