SHOWSTOPPERS
STEP 2 :
Now mark in the position of the nose on both plates . The mouth is the part of the mask that will strongly communicate the comedy and tragedy themes . Mark the mouth in the correct spot , and draw the shape upturned for comedy , and down-turned for tragedy .
STEP 3 :
The rest of the detail is now up to you , depending on what human or animal characters you want to make . Paint the plates a base colour . Then , when this is dry , you can add detail using other colours and materials .
STEP 4 :
Once dry , you will be able to add other features too . Use strands of wool for the eyebrows and / or facial hair , and painted cotton wool for the hair on top of the head . Get creative ! But try not to obscure the mouth sections with too much extra detail – remember , the mouths really need to communicate comedy and tragedy .
STEP 5 :
When both faces are complete , insert the ruler between them and secure with sticky tape . Attach the two plates together using a stapler , glue or tape – you may wish to hide the join from view with some strategically placed wool for hair ! The ruler can then be swivelled to show the comedy side or the tragedy side , depending on what you want to portray . Check out Polly ’ s designs for inspo !
