12 PRINTPACK INDIA 2019 SHOW DAILY 2 February 2019 | Supported by Indian Printer & Publisher and Packaging South Asia Sanjay Kadam eyes success in the new B2 digital segment Kadam Digital explores multiple verticals with HP Indigo 12000 W hen Pune-based Kadam Digital commissioned its HP Indigo 12000 press on 25 February 2018, it became the first pre-press bureau in Pune to own the model. An active digital printer since 2010, Kadam Digital also uses a Koni- ca Minolta digital press but the new B2 Indigo 1200 has given the company a lot of leverage in terms of format size, multiple substrates including plastics and the very high quality associated with this 7-color machine first shown by HP at drupa 2016. During the Pamex exhibition in Mumbai in December 2017, HP India and Kadam Digital announced the pur- chase of the Indigo 12000 digital press by the Pune-based digital print house and pre-press bureau. According to Sanjay Kadam, director, Kadam Digi- tal, the rationale behind going for the HP Indigo 12000 was to venture beyond just paper substrates and B3 and A4. Right before the Printpack India 2019 exhibition, we talked to Sanjay Kadam again, and he says that the ma- chine has really come into its own with full-fledged production over the past six months. With a speed of 4,600 pages an hour, the HP Indigo 12000 digital press can produce over two million color sheets each month with a resolution of 2,438dpi, and it can take sheet sizes of up to 750 x 530 mm. The Indigo 12000 press at Kadam Digital is configured with seven colours, CMYK plus three additional spot colours. As Kadam explained to us, at pre- sent the company is mainly using the Indigo 12000 for commercial printing. It is being used for carton and label and tag printing on multiple substates. He says that the press works well for car- tons and tags on substrates such as ITC Saphire and Cyber XL Pac and that he is able to use PVC and PP plastic me- dia for printing products such as tags, menus and various types of covers and jackets. About 20% of Kadam Digital’s cur- rent work on the Indigo 12000 is for photobooks. While the company prints about 20 to 25 photo books a day, Kad- am says, “With the new Indigo 12000 press we are also able to produce ‘Meg- abooks’ that is, large size photobooks that can have an open size as large as 15 x 40- inches. On our other digital press we could only produce large book that were 12 x 36-inches.” “The Indigo 12000 is the most proven press in the B2 segment,” says Kadam. When we ask him whether During the Pamex exhibition in Mumbai in December 2017, HP India and Kadam Digital announced the purchase of the Indigo 12000 digital press by the Pune-based digital print house and pre- press bureau. L to R: Kunal Kadam and Sanjay Kadam, directors at Kadam Digital Transprints with the HP Indigo 1200 digital press at Pamex 2017 the press is commercially viable, he explains, “When we print photobooks with the use of special colors such as pink and green there is a huge improve- ment in the quality and we are able to get the price for this improvement. Yes, it is a big investment but it will allow us to explore many new verticals. Al- BYTECH though the capital cost is significant, one must keep in mind that it’s a new breakthrough type of technology. How- ever, we find that the running cost is fair enough for what the machine pro- duces.” Kadam adds, “Our aim has been to go beyond CMYK and beyond paper. We are now exploring newer verticals and new products give a good return.” Kadam is an enthusiastic and expe- rienced digital printer with a strong legacy of quality that comes from the company’s background in photography and silver-halide prints. He is optimistic of getting returns on his Indigo 12000 from the premium commercial print- ing segment and short run packaging, label and tags on plastic substrates. He is equally confident of what he calls the ‘Megabook’ photobook market. “These premium segments offer better mar- gins,” says Kadam. – Naresh Khanna and Shardul Sharma UV LED Solutions For Printing Industry Bytech Electronics launched China's first full inorganic packaging UV luminous diode and its core application modules for UV ink curing, UV adhesive bonding, UV exposure, with CMH (ceramics, metal and hard glass) as the technology platform. UV LED curing solutions are utilized in the coatings industry because they offer highly reliable UV curing due to being a solid-state device. UV curing technology with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is considerably more eco-friendly and resource-saving compared to the traditional technologies. The disposal of heavy metal lamps made of gallium and mercury is no longer required. Working conditions for the line operators are improved as there is no ozone formation and an exhaust system is thus not necessary, which could lead to higher noise levels. The lower energy consumption of LED light sources contributes to the protection of resources. uv ink curing, uv glue curing, uv exposure, offset, flexo, screen print 6868(6.8*6.8mm) high power uva led uv ink curing, uv glue curing, uv exposure, offset, flexo, screen print 6868 (6.8*6.8mm) high power uva led UV Led Printing machine uv ink curing, CMH \(Ceramic, Metal, Hard Glass) uv glue curing, full inorganic UV LED and advantages : uv exposure, • Non-silicone quartz package screen print • Compact and light, easy to install 3535 (3.5*3.5mm) uva led Module with body • Instantly turn on/off, no waiting • Single core current up to 1500mA We also offer Ready Modules & PCB • Schematic ability reaches the vehicle lamp standard • No yellowing, no glue crack • No public hazard, no pollution • Laser seal welding, lens will never fall off • Low thermal resistance, high output Marketed by : A-123, Oshiwara Industrial Centre, Opp Oshiwara Bus Depot, D/11, Off Link Road, Goregaon (W), Mumbai - 400104.
