Lucas Greenhouses has become the premier East Coast destination for plant trials, attracting growers, retailers, and industry professionals eager to evaluate the newest introductions and top-performing varieties before they reach the marketplace.
Our newly expanded and redesigned trial gardens feature both full-sun and shaded growing areas, showcasing more than 3,000 large containers of vegetative annuals alongside nearly 300 perennial varieties. From July through September, visitors can compare plant performance, vigor, flowering, and garden habit side by side across our nearly 4-acre trial grounds. In late September, our extensive mum trials highlight several hundred varieties from multiple breeders, followed by our highly anticipated poinsettia trials in early December, which have quickly become a favorite annual event.
Our trial gardens are designed to showcase plants under real-world growing conditions, giving growers and retailers the confidence to select varieties that will perform successfully for their customers.
Whether you attend one of our scheduled Open House events or arrange a private visit, our trial gardens offer an excellent opportunity to see how new genetics perform in real-world conditions. If you’ re unable to attend an Open House, simply call ahead to schedule an appointment so a member of our team can personally guide you through the trials and answer your questions.
