WORLD LANGUAGE

LANGUAGE

The World Language department ' s mission is to prepare Campbell students to develop the skills and knowledge to interact with people from different cultures and become competent global citizens. Though World Languages are classified as elective courses, they are considered academic. For entry into a 4-year college, it is expected that students will earn 2 credits in the same language. Continuing beyond this minimum expectation can earn honors recognition and opportunities for additional diploma seals. For the HOPE scholarship, each student’ s GPA will be calculated with all core classes PLUS World Languages.
Students will be exposed to learning through: Communication: Students should develop the skills to express their thoughts and ideas in a target language effectively. Cultural Understanding: Students should develop the ability to be open-minded and tolerant, and to respond appropriately and respectfully to cultural differences. Critical Thinking: Students should develop the skills to read and think critically, and to consider multiple perspectives in a target language. Lifelong Learning: Students should develop the desire to pursue a lifelong appreciation of world languages and cultures.
