Course Name: AP Environmental Science Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. Biology AND H. Chemistry( 80 %+) OR Biology AND Chemistry( 90 +%)
Description: This course is designed as a scientific, systematic examination of the inter-relationships of the natural world for students wanting to be able to identify and analyze environmental problems both natural and human-made, to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems, and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and / or preventing them. The course has significant laboratory and field-work components. The course will involve independent study and frequent written analysis to prepare students for the AP Environmental Science Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: AP Physics I Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 11th and 12th grade( 10th IB)
Prerequisites: H. Physics( 80 %+); Physics( 90 %+). Preferred: Advanced Math Classes( 85 %+)
Description: This course is an algebra-based Physics course that is equivalent to a first-semester college course. This course provides a systematic introduction to the main principles of physics and emphasizes the development of problem-solving ability. This course is the equivalent to a first-semester college course in algebra-based physics. The course covers Newtonian mechanics( including rotational dynamics and angular momentum); work, energy, and power; and harmonic motion. The course will involve independent study and frequent mathematical and written analysis to prepare students for the AP Physics I Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: IB Environmental Systems & Societies Year One and Two SL Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 11th and 12th grade( IB)
Prerequisites: Must be in the IB program
Description: This is a college-level, two-year interdisciplinary course that integrates scientific and social science approaches to explore environmental systems and the complex sustainability challenges of the st
21 century. Through scientific inquiry and the study of environmental issues in social, cultural, economic, political, and ethical contexts, students develop a broad skill set and synthesize knowledge across disciplines. Exam Required. This course is only for students in the IB program. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
