Course Name: Human Anatomy / Physiology Type of Course: Core Course Available to: 11th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Biology, Environmental Science / Chemistry( 70 %+)
Description: This course continues earlier studies with student investigations that began in K-8 and Biology. It integrates the study of structures and functions of the human body; however rather than focusing on distinct anatomical and physiological systems( respiratory, nervous, etc.) instruction focuses on essential requirements for life. Areas of study include organization of the body’ s protection, support and movement; providing internal coordination and regulation; processing and transporting; and reproduction, growth and development. Case studies concerning diseases, disorders and aliments( reallife applications) are emphasized.

Prerequisites: H. Biology / H. Chemistry / H. Physics( 85 %+)
Description: This is an accelerated course that continues earlier studies with student investigations that began in K-8 and Biology. It integrates the study of structures and functions of the human body; however, rather than focusing on distinct anatomical and physiological systems( respiratory, nervous, etc.), instruction focuses on essential requirements for life. Areas of study include organization of the body’ s protection, support and movement; providing internal coordination and regulation; processing and transporting; and reproduction, growth and development. Case studies concerning diseases, disorders and aliments( real-life applications) are emphasized. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Astronomy Available to: 12th grade
Type of Course: Core Course Prerequisites: None( should be taken to satisy fourth science credit)
Description: This is a course designed to provide students with an introduction to the concepts of modern astronomy, the origin and history of the Universe, and the formation of the Earth and the solar system. Students will compare the Earth’ s properties with those of the other planets and explore how the heavens have influenced human thought and action. The course gives a description of astronomical phenomena using the laws of physics.
