Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: None
Description: This course is designed as an integrated and global approach to science and technology. The concepts in this course focus on the links between living things, their surroundings, and the total environment of the planet. This course will integrate the study of many components of our environment, including the human impact on our planet. Students will investigate the flow of energy and cycling of matter within ecosystems, and evaluate types, availability, allocation, and sustainability of energy resources.
Course Name: Biology I Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 9th-10th grade
Prerequisites: 8th Science( 85-89 %); AC 8th Science( 80-85 %); MS Physical Science( 80 %+) OR Environmental Science( 70 %- 89 %)
Description: This course is designed for students to learn and understand biological functions and systems on the cellular, genetic, evolutionary, systematic, and ecological levels. This course provides students the necessary skills to be proficient in biology by focusing on the identification of patterns, processes, and relationships of living organisms. These standards include more abstract concepts such as the interdependence of organisms, the relationship of matter, energy, and organization in living systems, the behavior of organisms, and biological evolution. Students investigate biological concepts through experiences in laboratories and field work using the process of inquiry. Students will be prepared for an End-of-Course Exam.
Course Name: Honors Biology I Available to: 9th and 10th grade
