After a few years as a landscape contractor, Arthur Hills started working as a golf course architect in 1966. Brandywine Country Club, which opened in 1967 in Toledo, Ohio, is listed as his first course.
Arthur Hills was nicknamed "The Mayor of Naples" by Pete Dye, the
Collier's Reserve Golf Course was designed by Arthur Hills.
The course work was commissioned in 1992 and the course
opened on January 2nd, 1994. The course was the first
Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Signature golf course
in existence.
Arthur Hills, who is known as one of the United States most
highly regarded golf course architects, was born in 1930 in
Toledo Ohio. In his youth he worked on the maintenance
crew at Barton Hills Country Club in Ann Arbor. He studied agriculture and agronomy and earned a BS from Michigan State in 1953. His plan was to join the family agriculture business and he became a landscape contractor. In 1958 he earned a BA from Toledo University and in 1961 he added a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Michigan. During his time at Michigan State he played golf on the Spartan golf team.

His influence extends beyond the boundaries of Collier County. Arthur Hills designed more than 200 new courses and his company provided golf architectural
services in 35 countries.
