BSO Usher Spotlight

CELEBRATING THE USHERS OF THE BALTIMORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall boasts an impressive 2,443 seats, each offering a unique vantage point to experience world-class performances. Ensuring that every patron finds their way with ease is the dedicated team of ushers, many of them volunteers, who are the first to welcome patrons to hall, setting the stage for an unforgettable concert experience.

“ The ushers help with many tasks that are important to the patron experience, but the most valuable asset is making everyone feel at home and like family,” Tiffany Bryan, Director of Patron Services, says.“ It truly makes us happy to hear patrons say,‘ Thank you for being here for us and making sure we are taken care of.’”
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra patrons are at the heart of the ushers’ service, from helping families find their seats, to locating lost items. They are also trained in assisting with emergency situations, and ensure patrons are safe and cared for. Above all, the usher staff embodies the spirit of hospitality, often developing their own relationships with frequent patrons to the BSO.
“ Most of our ushers have been here for many years and love what they do,”

Bryan observes.“ Several have their own fanbase, and patrons will look for them when they arrive at the hall.”
Bryan ' s position is the first endowed administrative position at the BSO, and the only role endowed in the holder ' s own name: The Tiffany Bryan Director of Patron Services position, another testament to the impact of the BSO ' s front-line usher team.
Under Bryan’ s leadership, the usher team fosters a positive and fun environment that benefits not only BSO patrons, but also the team itself. To keep the energy going at concerts, the ushers focus on uplifting each other and patrons, celebrating work milestones, birthdays, anniversaries, and more. Their commitment to the thousands of BSO patrons is what unites these 30 + personalities.
“ The patron experience is important to us because we strongly feel that they are one of the reasons the symphony is the great organization it is today,” Bryan says.“ Our ushers feel honored to be a part of making the BSO magic happen.”
