often that you just don’t have time to? Sculpture is something I wish I had more time to devote to. I did one sculptural piece in 2012 that I put out, it was part of my portfolio, it’s called “blood from a stone”, it initially started as a cast and it drooped while drying, it drooped three different times, where it just turned into something else, so I just chiseled the whole thing down, and I sculpted it by hand, and I really got into it. I hadn’t sculpted in so long, I had done some stuff many years ago, and I wasn’t all that into it, but working on that piece, it was wild because working two-dimensionally on artwork all the time, you’re basically creating the illusion of these images, that they exist, because they don’t, it’s a flat surface. When you’re working three dimensionally, it’s so hands on, and its either there or it’s not, you’re not creating an illusion, you’re putting it there, physically, bit by bit, so I really liked that aspect of it, and there are several concepts that I have in paintings that I would like to sculpt and release as some limited editions. It’ll definitely be something I get into eventually when I find the time. But yeah, off the top, that would probably be the one thing I’d like to get more into, sculpture. Are there any future projects at this point, after this convention, that your looking forward to working on? Yeah, there’s actually a documentary on my work and life that is being made right now by an amazing, award-winning film maker, John Borowski. John has directed, produced and written four films to date, all of which are or were on Netflix, you know how that works, they buy it for a certain amount of time, but he’s done all serial killer documentaries to date, so this is the first non-serial killer film that he’ll be doing, and there’s always time, I can start killing whenever, No, I’m just kidding! That could be your supply of blood. Yeah exactly, I got the dissection table right behind me, so I’m ready to go. But you know, it’s been a real pleasure and honor to work with John, in addition to being an incredibly talented film maker, he’s also a really awesome person, a really beautiful person. So I’m defiantly excited about it, because it will cover my work in addition to my life, it’s a level of personal exposure I’ve never experienced before, it’s new territory for me, I’m honored that John found my work and life valuable enough content to produce this film. Definitely looking forward to it, that will be out in 2016, probably more towards the end of the year. IG: @vincent_castiglia www.ArcanumStudioNYC.com 101
