especially with the music industry now, there’s a lot of music that doesn’t
have any content. It doesn’t have any purpose. When you listen to a song
that inspires you or makes you go one day further in life and feel like you
can do it or get through any situation in life…Think about it. Life is a frea-
kin box of chocolates man. You never know what you’re going to get. It’s
a rollercoaster. Music has the power to make you keep moving forward.
Once we realized that, the music and what we write about and how the
boys play…that’s what we create from. We create from relationships,
communication, from stories of our own lives, stories we hear from other
people’s lives as well. For example, we have this song called “Runaway.”
It’s about…I grew up with my dad. He’s been my best friend growing up.
We get into this big argument. We don’t get into arguments a lot but we
get into this huge argument. Now imagine, I’m a total daddy’s girl and
all of a sudden we get into a big argument. I’m a little bit older. This guy
wakes up in the morning and kicks me out the house. He’s frustrated on
life. Life’s going a little bit crazy on him, life’s going a little crazy on me
and I get kicked out the house. Now imagine how big of a heartbreak that
was. My dad’s my world. He comes to every show. He’s incredible. So I
come from Long Island to the Bronx feeling this way. Adrian starts playing
the guitar and we came up with the song “Runaway.” It’s about no matter
how low your situation is, no matter how hard it is, no matter what, you
runaway. Empower yourself from it and know you can get through it. We
understand as a band to empower other people. It’s what we wanted to
hear when we were kids. It gets tiring hearing all this music that makes
you go into worse influences or deviance. It makes you want to kill your-
self. Then you get the band that tells you, “Nah, we’re not about that.”
We’re about you getting one more day. You fighting for one more day. You
going for your dream one more day. Those things transform your life. Un-
derstanding the power of music has allowed us to put out the music we
do today.
AR: Reality, when you grow up the way that we do you gotta try to find
your own way. One of the biggest things is that we don’t have an album
