2 OVERTURE / BSOmusic . org
As an audience member , I have been inspired by Jonathon Heyward ' s unique ability to build connections between conductor , musicians , audiences , and the wider community . This season , we excitedly look forward to Jonathon ' s next set of performances in March as he returns to the podium for performances of Carmina Burana and Mahler ’ s Symphony No . 6 , two programs not to be missed !
We also look forward to the return of our Music Director Laureate , Marin Alsop , as she welcomes 19-year-old pianist and global phenomenon , Yunchan Lim , to the Meyerhoff and Strathmore stages for an evening of Simon , Ives , and Rachmaninoff . The news of her BSO return was met with so much excitement from our audience that we added a special Open Rehearsal event for our donors and subscribers to enjoy this exciting performance .
Beyond the walls of our concert halls , we recently visited the University of Maryland Baltimore County ( UMBC ) on March 8 to perform at the beautiful Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall . Engaging more frequently with students , faculty , alumni , and neighbors at various Maryland colleges and universities will help to make the BSO America ’ s undeniable example of a cherished , widely relevant , and inventive symphony .
Speaking of community , did you know that March is Music in Our Schools Month ? We take pride in acknowledging the profound impact of our OrchKids program , which has been instrumental in providing music education to Baltimore City school students for an impressive 16 years . OrchKids embodies the BSO ’ s dedication to nurturing the next generation of musicians and fostering a lifelong appreciation for the arts .
Because of the great support of our donors and subscribers , music programs like OrchKids and the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras continue to thrive . We want to take the opportunity to say thank you for your unwavering dedication to the arts .
As we anticipate a season filled with more excitement and extraordinary performances , we invite you to join us often on this remarkable journey .
