HAPPY NEW YEAR from Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ! We find ourselves well in the heart of an exciting 2023-24 season under the brilliant artistic leadership of our new Music Director , Jonathon Heyward .
We have lots to look forward to in the coming months . One highlight is our second annual Lunar New Year concert and celebration . Following the success of our inaugural performance in 2023 , we are thrilled to continue this tradition of celebrating Asian culture on February 8 at the Meyerhoff as we recognize a multinational holiday that brings communities together . This family-friendly performance will provide the chance to honor the Year of the Dragon and collaborate with local businesses and organizations while our musicians weave together a musical experience that transcends borders and traditions .

In November , we welcomed the 2023 – 24 return of our Symphony in the City concert series . Students at Archbishop Borders School graciously hosted us for a special Día de los Muertos performance on November 1 when we curated a concert program reflective of the vibrant Latin American culture and paid homage to Baltimore ’ s growing Latin community . We continue our community celebrations this January with a special Martin Luther King , Jr . Day performance at the B & O Railroad Museum on January 15 , where we will honor the life and legacy of one of our nation ’ s greatest civil rights leaders . Together with our Artistic Partner , Wordsmith , we explore the beginnings of American Railroading at the B & O , its impact during the Civil War , and the roots of the Underground Railroad . We look forward to concluding this season ’ s Symphony in the City series with a June 7 concert led by Jonathon Heyward .
Another much-anticipated event is the return of our Music Director Laureate , Marin Alsop , who reunites with esteemed composer Kevin Puts . Maestra Alsop will lead Puts ’ dazzling concerto designed for the improvising , vocalizing , and genrecrossing talents of the GRAMMY award-winning string trio , Time for Three .
Our Movies with Orchestra series returns with a special feature of the cult classic Back to the Future . Concertgoers will enjoy the magic of the timeless film as the BSO musicians , led by Hollywood ’ s go-to conductor , Anthony Parnther , perform the iconic score .
We would be remiss not to express sincere gratitude to our donors , members , subscribers , and Passport holders . We encourage you to take full advantage of our Ovation Series , which provides an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in events designed to bring you closer to the music and the talented musicians who make it all possible .
As we look forward to all that 2024 has in store , we extend our heartfelt thanks to you for being an integral part of the BSO family . We can ’ t wait to share more unforgettable moments throughout the season .
