ABOUT THE ARTISTS Moon Doh
A recipient of the Takaya Urakawa Foundation Grant awarded to promising young musicians , Moon Doh successfully concluded his first season ( 2021 – 22 ) as assistant conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra . In this role , he conducted subscription , education and family concerts while also presenting Beethoven ’ s string quartets in various libraries across Pittsburgh . As the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Flora Symphony Orchestra in Cologne , Germany prior to his Pittsburgh appointment , he not only led exciting subscription concerts but also worked closely with music pedagogues , reaching an unprecedented number of children through music for three seasons . Moon ' s latest collaborations in Europe include leading the WDR Funkhausorchester in Germany , Savaria Symphony Orchestra in Hungary , and Pleven Philharmonic in Bulgaria .
Born in South Korea , Moon spent much of his childhood in the Philippines , Russia , and the United States . At the age of nine , he began cello and piano studies in Russia and has since performed with various youth and student orchestras across the globe . As a passionate advocate for young rising artists , he was the assistant conductor to the State Youth Orchestra of Hessen . In addition , he was also the conductor of the Under-16 Orchestra of Tonhalle Düsseldorf and regularly coached the Youth Orchestra of Essen .
A staunch believer in empowering others , Moon has actively worked with asylum seekers in Hungary , children in underserved areas of Bangladesh , and inmates in Baltimore as the president of a student organization while completing his B . A . in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins University .
In recent years , Moon has worked with many orchestras across Europe : Duisburger Philharmoniker , Düsseldorfer Symphoniker , Neue Philharmonie Westfalen , and Bergische Symphoniker , Dortmunder Philharmoniker in Germany , Romanian Chamber Orchestra in Romania , Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra in Spain , Sinfonietta Cracovia in Poland , and Ruse Philharmonic in Bulgaria to name a few .
Under the tutelage of Rüdiger Bohn , Moon received his bachelor ’ s and master ' s degrees in orchestral conducting from the Robert Schumann
Hochschule in Düsseldorf , Germany . Prior to his conducting studies , he received a B . A . in music composition from Sahmyook University in South Korea . Moon has participated in renowned music festivals such as Accademia Chigiana in Italy and Bartók Festival in Hungary . His conducting mentors include Cristian Măcelaru , Peter Eötvös , and Jorma Panula .
Cathy Yang
Hailed as one of the most dynamic , passionate , and respected erhu masters today , Yang , a graduate from the Central Conservatory of Music , has garnered numerous accolades throughout her musical journey . She claimed top prizes in various international and national competitions , including the first prize in the LONG YIN Instrumental Soloist Competition in 1999 , the Gold Award in the annual music competition hosted by China ' s Ministry of Culture , and a Silver Medal in the TIANHUA CUP National Youth Erhu Competition .
Following her success in China , Yang embarked on a genuine international performance career . She extensively toured the United States , Germany , Japan , France , South Africa , Hong Kong , and China , collaborating seamlessly with prestigious orchestras such as the China Philharmonic Orchestra , Beijing Symphony Orchestra , and Allentown Symphony Orchestra . Yang has showcased her talent in solo performances at renowned venues like Carnegie Hall , the United Nations Headquarters , the Lincoln Center , and the Kennedy Center . Moreover , her concerts broadcasted on China Central Television ( CCTV ) have reached billions worldwide . Yang has performed for President Joe Biden during several of his visits to the University of Delaware , his alma mater .
Beyond her renditions of traditional Chinese music , Yang delves deep into innovative and unexpected styles on the Erhu . Her repertoire spans classical , jazz , funk , bluegrass , Asian folk , and Latin American music , showcasing her unique versatility . Whether performing solo or as part of an ensemble , her diverse musical choices and vibrant interpretive style resonate with various audiences and musical genres .
In 2022 , Yang had the esteemed privilege of performing alongside the famous cellist , Mr . Yo-Yo Ma . Together , they showcased the composition " Journey ," crafted by GRAMMY Award-winning clarinetist and composer , Mr . Paquito d ' Rivera . This composition was specifically tailored for Cello , Erhu , and Clarinet , Collaborating with the National Symphony Orchestra , they delivered a mesmerizing performance at the Wolf Trap Summer Music Festival . Every note resonated deeply with the audience , garnering praise and acclaim from industry professionals and spectators alike . Yang is presently an active member of “ 6-WIRE ,” a crossover ensemble in residence at the University of Delaware . This ensemble passionately explores the intricate relationship between the East and West through creativity and virtuosity . It is represented by California Artists Management .
Tony Siqi Yun
The Canadian-born pianist Tony Siqi Yun , Gold Medalist at the First China International Music Competition ( 2019 ) and awarded the Rheingau Music Festival ’ s 2023 Lotto- Förderpreis , is quickly becoming a sought-after soloist and recitalist .
During the 2023 – 24 season , he made his highly-acclaimed subscription debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Yannick Nézet-Séguin , and this season , he joins Nézet-Séguin on a U . S . Tour with Orchestre Metropolitain , including an appearance at Carnegie Hall . Also in 2023 – 24 , he makes debut appearances at the Colorado Music Festival , the Aspen Festival , the Vail Dance Festival and with the Hamilton ( ON ) Philharmonic , conducted by Gemma New . Other engagements include Edmonton Symphony and Orchestra Lumos with Michael Stern , the Rhode Island Philharmonic with Joseph Young and the New Jersey Symphony . He performs Marquez Dance No . 2 at Lincon Center for American Ballet Theatre ’ s Fall Gala . Tony has also appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra , Toronto Symphony , Buffalo Philharmonic , Orchestre de Chambre de Paris and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra .
Tony regularly performs solo recitals in both Europe and North America . Recent and future highlights include his debuts at the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie , Gewandhaus Leipzig , Tonhalle Düsseldorf , Philharmonie Luxembourg and in North America at Stanford Live , Gilmore Rising Stars Series , and 92nd Street Y in New York , with a return visit to the Vancouver Recital Series .
He is a recipient of the Jerome L . Greene Fellowship at the Juilliard School where he studies with Professors Yoheved Kaplinsky and Matti Raekallio .
