In November , the Baltimore Symphony launches our highly anticipated partnership with the University of Maryland ’ s Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center , a collaboration that deepens our commitment to service through a multi-faceted performance and educational residency . At the helm of this journey is our esteemed Music Director , Jonathon Heyward , who co-hosts an onstage conversation with ethnomusicologist and UMD College of Arts & Humanities Dean Stephanie Shonekan as a part of our first concert on November 17 . With this conversation and performance featuring Beethoven ’ s Fourth Symphony and Unsuk Chin ’ s subito con forza , we aim to create immersive experiences that resonate not only within the halls of our concert venues but also within the hearts and minds of budding musicians and music enthusiasts at the University of Maryland . Under Jonathon ’ s guidance , we ’ re not only performing concerts ; we are shaping the future of classical music by investing in the development of the next generation of musicians .
On a note of personal excitement , I am happy to announce the presence of a music legend in our midst . We are honored to welcome Bob Dylan to the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall during Thanksgiving weekend . His visit highlights our “ Live at the Meyerhoff ” series , where our historic concert venue plays host to both national and local performance artists . This initiative brings diverse and vibrant musical experiences to our community , further establishing the Meyerhoff as “ A Hall for All .”
As we embark on the holiday season , we are full of anticipation for the upcoming programming that promises to enchant audiences of all ages . Our “ Films with Orchestra ” series , featuring the beloved classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas , will once again create magical moments where the power of live orchestral music meets the charm of cinema . The “ Baroque Christmas ,” “ Cirque Nutcracker ,” and the “ Holiday Spectacular ” will usher in the festive spirit and spread joy throughout our community . Be sure to immerse yourself in the perfectly decked halls of the Meyerhoff and spread the holiday cheer as we support the Kennedy Krieger Institute with an annual toy drive .
None of our endeavors would be possible without the unwavering support of our donors , subscribers , and ticket holders . Your commitment to the arts sustains the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and as we approach the season of giving , I invite you to join us in the spirit of support and generosity . Consider contributing to our OrchKids program and music education initiatives , which empower young minds through the transformative power of music . Additionally , our Giving Tuesday campaign provides a unique opportunity for you to make a meaningful impact on the future of classical music .
On behalf of the entire Baltimore Symphony Orchestra family , we thank you for your continued support and wish you a joyous holiday season .
