Damon Gupton
Damon Gupton is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Cincinnati Pops . A native of Detroit , Michigan , he served as American Conducting Fellow of the Houston Symphony and Assistant Conductor of the Kansas City Symphony . He has appeared with orchestras across the country and internationally , including the Philadelphia Orchestra , Detroit Symphony , Boston Pops , National Symphony Orchestra , San Francisco Symphony , Baltimore Symphony , Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo , NHK Orchestra of Tokyo , and Orquesta Filarmonica de UNAM . He led the Sphinx Chamber Orchestra , and conducted the finals of the Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition and Classic FM Live at Royal Albert Hall with Chineke !.
Gupton graduated from the Juilliard School Drama Division and is an accomplished actor in television , film , and onstage . He currently stars in The Big Door Prize for AppleTV . Other series regular roles include The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L . Jackson , Black Lightning , Criminal Minds , The Player , The Divide , Prime Suspect , as well as guest star / recurring appearances on Super Pumped , The Comey Rule , Dirty John , Goliath , Bates Motel , The Newsroom , Suits , Empire , Law & Order , and others . He also appeared in Damien Chazelle ’ s Academy Award-winning films Whiplash and La La Land , and the award-winning Broadway production of Clybourne Park .
