a new musical journey

ON FEBRUARY 27 , 2023 , the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra celebrated the announcement of its historic 2023-24 Season in a special program featuring incoming Music Director , Jonathon Heyward , on the podium and in conversation with WYPR ' s Tom Hall . The complimentary event was open to subscribers , donors , and community members as part of an enhanced inclusionary vision for the BSO .
This first-of-its-kind event occurred at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall , and also welcomed supporters who attend BSO concerts at The Music Center at Strathmore . Guests enjoyed insightful commentary about new and intentional programming such as an expansive Celebrate Asia initiative , a guest artist residency , and the inclusion of other art forms alongside the Orchestra .
As the evening went on , the conversation was interspersed with musical performances . Joined by members of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra , OrchKids , and Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras , Jonathon Heyward took the podium three times to give attendees a preview of his bold and exciting vision for his inaugural season .
To close the evening , BSO President & CEO , Mark C . Hanson invited all guests to the lobby for a post-event celebration which included photo opportunities with Jonathon and a taste of Baltimore ’ s favorite snacks .
