• “ Tuba ” is a Latin word meaning horn or trumpet

1835 The patent for the first tuba was filed on September 12 , 1835 , for a “ bass tuba ” in F1
• The tuba serves as the bass of the orchestral brass section
• Tubas are found in various pitches , most commonly in F , E� , C , or B�
• The tuba is generally constructed of brass , which is either unfinished , lacquered or electro-plated with nickel , gold , or silver
