FROM THE PRESIDENT

JONATHON HEYWARD MUSIC DIRECTOR

A s our season continues , there have been many notable moments on and off stage with many exceptional concerts still to come ! Most recently , we opened our doors on February 27 for a season announcement event featuring Jonathon Heyward and moderated by WYPR ’ s Tom Hall . Patrons , subscribers , donors , partners , and community members got a firsthand introduction to details about our 2023 – 24 season . Immediately following the onstage conversation and performances , guests were invited to meet Jonathon and mingle with BSO musicians during a lobby celebration . From season opening concerts in both of our concert halls — The Music Center at Strathmore and the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall — to new program additions , we ’ re confident that audiences will find much to be excited about . Please visit our website for more detailed information about the 2023 – 24 season .

There are additional concerts that deserve special mention , as well . As we endeavor to be a welcoming space for a wide variety of genres , the BSO ’ s GospelFest 2023 is an opportunity for audiences to immerse themselves in music that inspires joy and hopefulness . Please join us as gospel legends and the Concert Choirs of Morgan State University and Howard University unite with the BSO under the direction of Associate Conductor Jonathan Rush for three uplifting family-friendly concerts on April 27 – 29 .
Last but not least , as part of a world-wide 150 th birthday celebration , we ’ ve curated four concert programs to celebrate the life and legacy of Sergei Rachmaninoff , one of classical music ’ s most highly regarded pianists and composers . To kick off the Festival , made possible by the major support from Judy and Scott Phares , we ’ ve partnered with the Cathedral Choral Society for a performance at the Washington ’ s National Cathedral on March 19 . The celebration continues with BSO performances featuring Olga Kern , winner of the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition , as well as Rachmanioff ’ s Symphony No . 2 .
The BSO ’ s current and upcoming season are both displays of our continued commitment to world-class , diverse artistry . We remain exceedingly grateful for our donors who make what we do possible . Because of supporters like you our education programming , community engagement initiatives , and performances continue to thrive . Our ongoing collaboration with the entire philanthropic community is making the BSO more relevant and accessible to our entire city , region and state , and we invite you to learn more about member and donor benefits by visiting BSOmusic . org / giving .
