As already written before , analysing the Schuhmacher ’ s house plays an important role in this project . Therefore , the static system needs to be completely studied . This step is necessary in order to identify where the interventions can take place and where the existing structure needs to be supported . By opening the structure on site , the materiality and the type of construction could be determined .
The interior and exterior walls in the ground and the upper floor are made of a massive brick layer . The cellar is the only room that is half below ground level , therefore , the walls of the cellar are executed in concrete . Additionally , all exterior walls , whether brick or wood , have a concrete base that protects the construction from moisture . The living area and the basement also have a concrete foundation as a ground layer . Furthermore , the statical system of the stable is constructed in wood . Columns in the outer walls and one in the middle of the room take on the main load , which flows off the roof structure . The roof truss consists of a standard purlin roof . Struts in the outer walls support the static system . Like the stable , the attic of the living area is executed in a wooden construction . Due to the requirements the static system differs from the stable concerning the type of the wooden construction . Nevertheless , the roof construction is like of the stable a standard purlin roof . Additionally , all ceilings in the buildings are like the roof executed as wooden beam ceilings . The stress directions of the ceilings in the living part run in the same direction . Wooden panels and additional smaller beams extend the load-bearing system . upper floor
