All around Christ there were terrible abuses of power, demonstrated in blackmail, intolerance and cruelty. And yet the Savior of humanity made no attempt to start a political party or demand any civil reforms. He attacked no civil rulers. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. Christ was not indifferent to the suffering of humanity, but He knew the solution did not lie in merely human and external methods. To be efficient, the cure must reach everyone individually and transform hearts and minds. Otherwise the problem would simply be masked by an outward correctness of behavior and the very essence of the gospel would be perverted.
“ A vote for the lesser evil is still a vote for evil.”
When brought before Pilate, Christ explains to the civil ruler that
His is a gospel which transcends human government. Jesus said,“‘ My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.’‘ You are a king, then!’ said Pilate. Jesus answered,‘ You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me’”( John 18:36- 37).
The question today is: To which kingdom do you belong? Are you working for the establishment of the kingdom of Christ as an earthly and temporary government? Or are you sharing the gospel of the risen Savior and preparing souls for the establishment of that kingdom which will never fall?
If your citizenship is in heaven, the Lord calls you to stand as a separate and peculiar person. When you vote for political parties you do not always know the character of the one whom you are actually voting for. If you do vote to place
