The task of my project in Balzers , under the castle hill , is to create new living and working opportunities for different groups in four abandoned houses , which are reflecting the history and identity of the village . Through this project , these buildings should be preserved because they are some of the last historical houses around the castle which are not destroyed yet . New living spaces for the elderly are in need , the lifestyle of young generations is changing and the impact of the Coronavirus to our lives is enormous – all these aspects should be considered in this project .
The project “ Baureservoir Balzers ” should create a connection between history , architecture , tradition , and identity , but should also connect the inhabitants of the alpine Rhine valley more with each other . The main goal of the project is to show , that not only the castle of Balzers is an important landmark , but also the traditional villages and houses around the castle . Therefore , these buildings should also be preserved and upcycled – as the castle was upcycled and preserved . The following research question should help to find the right solution for this problem :
How should the abandoned houses , under the castle hill in Balzers , be designed , to get all the cultural , natural , historical , and rural qualities of Balzers connected and to be able to grant communication between different groups , new tourism , and living opportunities in the future , creating a positive impact on the environment and on the social life of the villagers ?
Therefore , the aim of the project is to develop a modern combination of various areas of knowledge and culture , but also new housing options for various groups , whereby a harmony of the architecture , the hillside location , and the historical identity of Balzers should be created . Various sources were used to accomplish this task . These approaches were reproduced systematically in the following chapters of the work . In addition to the location analysis , the process of developing the project is presented , which should explain and clarify the result in a comprehensible manner . The project was divided into five phases of research and design .
