Elgagass 35

The first building is one of the most interesting buildings in the village . This economical building is located next to the castle hill , at the northern ending of the Elgagass street . It was built in 1862 by Prince Johann I – it is the only building which was directly built by the princely family . The Waschhüsle was built as an economical building for the Haus Gutenberg and the Gutenberg Castle . Later it became a wash house and a bath house , till it was bought 1925 by the Municipality of Balzers . Then it became a storage room and a workshop of the municipality . Today , the municipality is still the owner , but the building is abandoned and no longer used . Almost all of its windows are broken . The parcel of the building owns large green areas along the Schlossbach stream with many old trees . Beside the green areas it also owns vegetable and herbbeds but also lot of parking spaces for many buildings in the area – this makes this building to a meeting zone .
