From the beginning , a groundbreaking environmental study in the 70s followed by a careful master plan struck the tone for balancing nature and development on Kiawah Island . In 1997 , the Conservancy was founded to preserve that balance and ensure the natural beauty of Kiawah Island for the enjoyment of future generations . Since that time the Conservancy has focused on preserving properties , educating the public on the importance of preservation , advancement , protecting natural habitat , and sharing with the world what a remarkable place Kiawah Island is .
The Conservancy has seen much success since writing our first multi-year strategic plan . Now is the ideal time , with decades of knowledge and experience under our belt , to chart a path forward and build on that momentum . Through our 2030 Strategic Plan we are laying a foundation to guide our growth as we strive to dramatically extend our reach and broaden our impact .
