Football talent has huge
footprint in western suburbs
Proven playmakers head the list of prep football players to watch in the western suburbs this fall, but big linemen also show a forceful presence.
The University of Minnesota football program has commitments from two of the premier defensive linemen from Lake Conference high schools – Gage Geyer of Edina and Eli Diane of Wayzata. The two prize recruits will be on the same field early in the season when Wayzata hosts Edina at 7 p. m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Wayzata High Stadium. Edina is coming off a Prep Bowl championship last season while Wayzata is bound and determined to improve on last year’ s 1-8 record with new head coach Derrin Lamker at the helm.
Following is our Sun Galaxy of Stars for the 2026 season. As games begin, other stars will join the list. Much of the initial list is based on statistics from 2025 and observations of head coaches in the sun coverage area.
JOSHUA AMADI
Bloomington Kennedy running back Joshua Amadi had a breakout season in 2025 with 719 yards and eight touchdowns on 106 carries. His average of 6.8 yards per attempt put him among Minnesota’ s leaders. On the defensive side, Amadi made 50 total tackles.
