Thunder girls soccer beats Melrose 10-1
Zimmerman has outscored its opponents 18-1 this season and has two wins and a draw through three games

The Zimmerman girls soccer team improved its record to 2-0-1 after defeating the Melrose Area Dutchmen, 10-1, Tuesday, Sept. 1. The Thunder have outscored their first three opponents by a combined score of 18-1 after defeating Hutchinson / Glencoe-Silver Lake, 8-0, in their season opener Thursday, Aug. 27, and settling for a 0-0 tie with Westonka Saturday, Aug. 29.
The Thunder struck early and often against the Dutchmen. Freshman Aubrey Mevissen netted four goals in the first 11:40, including an impressive bender on a corner kick that found the far upper corner for a 4-0 lead. Eighth grader Amaya-Jo Larson then added four straight goals to give the Thunder an 8-0 halftime lead.
With Zimmerman dominating play, the Thunder emptied their bench in the second half. Freshman Harper Olson extended the lead to 9-0 at 11:33, and freshman Esmae Kittelson added a goal at 15:07 to make it 10-0. Melrose scored on a breakaway with 10 seconds remaining to deny Zimmerman the shutout.
WHAT’ S NEXT
Zimmerman travels to North Branch( 0-2-0) to play the Vikings Tuesday, Sept. 8, and will return home to play Big Lake( 0-3-0) Thursday, Sept. 10, at Thunder Stadium. Both games start at 7 p. m.
