As a native Houstonian and currently reside in Houston, Texas. Selena Harbor brings more than 30 years of professional experience in customer service, retail, and the medical field, along with more than 10 years of lived experience in advocacy, public policy, and community engagement.
With her background and experience, Selena wanted to lead the Premier Youth Ambassadors for Radon Reduction because she sees advocacy as a powerful way to educate communities, develop new leaders, and create meaningful change. With more than 10 years of lived advocacy and policy experience, she has seen firsthand how education, personal stories, and grassroots involvement can influence public policy and improve people’s lives.
Her work with organizations focused on
health, social justice, crime survivors,
and community advocacy has also
taught her the importance of helping
people understand issues that may
not receive enough attention.
Radon is one of those issues. Selena recognized an opportunity to bring her advocacy experience to radon and lung cancer prevention while helping young people find their own voices as community leaders.
As a PYA leader, Selena wants to mentor and empower youth—not simply direct them. She can help young ambassadors learn how to educate their communities, speak with policymakers, organize awareness activities, tell compelling stories, and advocate for healthier homes and schools. Her goal is to help create a new generation of advocates who understand that their voices can help prevent disease and protect families.
Most importantly, Selena’s interest reflects a natural extension of what she has already spent years doing: building leadership, elevating community voices, addressing health disparities, and turning advocacy into action.
