2025 Season in Review
Izard County finished 3-7 a year ago, picking up a win over Yellville along the way. The Cougars graduate three contributors in Hayden Strong( WR), Caiden Wiseman( RB / LB), and Billy Davis( RB / LB), but return a nucleus of experienced, skilled players at the most important positions— particularly in the passing game— that gives Coach Hill a legitimate foundation to build an aggressive 2026 campaign around.
Offense
Izard County runs the Air Raid— a wide-open, pass-first attack that puts the ball in the air early and often and stresses defenses horizontally across the field. The strength of this unit is a combination of team speed and an experienced offensive line, a pairing that gives the passing game both time and targets to work with. Kane Johnson returns at quarterback after gaining varsity experience as a freshman in 11-man football— a head start that most 8-man quarterbacks simply do not have. He is developing into a rhythm passer with dual-threat ability, and in the Air Raid, a quarterback who can extend plays with his legs and consistently deliver the ball on schedule is the difference between a good offense and a great one. James Down is the featured receiver, bringing 4.5 speed and polished route running with reliable hands— exactly the profile an Air Raid system is built around. Brogan Pospisil, who transfers in from Highland, adds a deep threat dimension that will demand respect from opposing secondaries and open up the intermediate game for the rest of the receiver group. Brayden Treat rounds out a receiving corps with a savvy, route-running presence and good hands. Landon Altman gives the offense a dual-purpose back— an elusive runner who is equally dangerous catching passes out of the backfield and finishing runs between the tackles. Up front, Corbin Smith, Keylon Gross, and Evan Cole all return as previous starters, providing the experienced protection an Air Raid quarterback needs to operate. Depth remains the primary concern throughout the roster.
Defense
Izard County runs a 2-4-2 scheme built around team speed and relentless pursuit— a style wellsuited to the athleticism this roster possesses. The Cougars rely on their ability to swarm the ball and eliminate big plays rather than size at the point of attack. Depth is the most significant concern on this side of the ball as well, and staying healthy across a full 8-Man West schedule will be critical to sustaining the defensive identity Coach Hill is building.
Special Teams
William Horton and Hez Humphries are the key contributors in the kicking game for the Cougars in 2026.
2026 Outlook
Coach Hill has Izard County pointed in the right direction. A returning quarterback with varsity experience, a speed-driven receiving corps highlighted by a proven target in James Down and a transfer deep threat in Pospisil, and an experienced offensive line give the Cougars an Air Raid attack that can score points quickly. The goal heading into 2026 is aggressive playoff seeding— and with the offensive weapons available, Izard County has the ability to put up numbers that make that goal very attainable.
