The Walnut Ridge Bobcats enter the 2026 season looking to build on last year’ s 21 – 11 record that ended with a narrow 4 – 3 loss in the first round of the state tournament. With eight starters returning, head coach Seth Hart believes his team has the experience and depth needed to make another strong postseason run. Offensively, the Bobcats feature several proven hitters. Junior Riley Richey returns to lead off after playing a key role in the lineup and pitching rotation last season. Senior Jaxton Brady will again hit near the top of the order and patrol right field while also providing potential innings on the mound. Junior Jace Blake had a breakout season at the plate, hitting. 430 while earning all-state honors and recognition at the Best Under the Sun event. Trevor Augustine also returns after batting. 430 and providing key innings as a pitcher in big games. Behind the plate, sophomore Jace Dulaney returns after driving in several runs last season while establishing himself as one of the top defensive catchers in Class 3A. Taylor Nichols also returns as a run producer after contributing significantly as the designated hitter. On the mound, senior TJ Owens provides leadership and experience with the ability to consistently locate pitches. Senior Jagger Brogdon is expected to take on a larger role in the pitching rotation after showing success in limited action last season. Senior Brogan Tate returns to the program and could add power to the lineup. With strong team speed, gap power, and experienced pitching, the Bobcats will once again be a tough team to face in the balanced 3A-3 Conference.
The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats enter the 2026 season looking to build on an impressive year that saw them capture a conference regular season title, finish as district runner-up, and advance to the 3A state tournament before ending the season with an 18 – 7 record. Head coach Chad Broadway returns the bulk of his lineup and hopes that experience can help the Lady Cats bring more hardware back to Lawrence County. Offensively, Walnut Ridge returns several key contributors. Ashtyn Bradley anchors the lineup while also leading the pitching staff. Bradley has developed into one of the team’ s top all-around players and will again hit in the middle of the order after a strong offseason in the weight room. Catcher Chloe Newberry also returns and provides a steady presence behind the plate while serving as another run-producing bat in the middle of the lineup. Mallory Moore will hold down third base and adds power to the lineup with the ability to drive balls into the gaps. Whitley White brings consistency as a contact hitter and can play either first base or in the outfield depending on the team’ s needs. Bailei Hudson patrols center field and provides flexibility defensively while also contributing throughout the lineup. KK Shutzius returns at second base, while senior Lila Woods will play a utility role and provide leadership. In the circle, Bradley will lead the pitching staff and gives Walnut Ridge a chance to win every time she takes the mound. Several freshmen could make immediate contributions, including Kaylee Deese, who can play in the infield or catch, and Catelyn Sanders, who adds pitching depth. Andi Claire Davis and Selena Ramirez provide defensive versatility and offensive potential, while Katelyn Ditto could make an impact with her speed and ability to play multiple positions. For Walnut Ridge, success will depend on throwing competitive pitches, making routine defensive plays, and competing consistently at the plate. With experience throughout the lineup, the Lady Bobcats should once again be a contender near the top of the 3A-3 and a strong postseason threat.
