Womack Looks to Thrive in a New Role By: Brad Davis
Going into her senior year, Carly Jo Womack had already accomplished more than many athletes get to in a whole career. Womack has been a part of three straight conference championships in basketball and softball, and has
been to three straight state championship games in softball winning two of those including last year’ s 1-0 victory over Hackett.“ Winning two state titles has been unbelievable,” Womack shared.“ We worked hard to get there, and those experiences are so surreal. They aren’ t something that everyone gets to experience, and I got to be a part of two of them so I am just so grateful.”
Carly Jo expanded on how each title was similar and how they were different.“ In my 9th grade year, we won our first state championship against Mansfield,” she continued.“ It was my first year in high school softball so it was an amazing experience. All of us worked together to be there, and we needed everyone. The day of, we went to hit and we went to the field. I feel like we were all in disbelief that we were at UCA’ s softball field and about to play in the championship. The game itself was a pretty slow, stressful game. It was just a battle of the defenses. This past year, we kind of expected to be back at the top. We knew we could do it, but we had to stay hungry and not be satisfied because we did go to the finals in the previous years. The day of the championship, it was rainy and it ended up getting pushed back. We hit at the same spot we did my first year, and we ended up going to Burger King which is one of my least favorite places. We waited around for a while which made me more nervous about the game. The game itself was also slow. We played Hackett, and it was also mainly a battle between the defenses. Klaire pitched great in both games and
