New fire station on the horizon
The Lakeville Police Department aims to reduce crime and ensure a good quality of life in Lakeville. The men and women of the Lakeville Police Department accomplish this through patrol work, responding to calls for service, investigating reports of public safety concerns and conducting a wide range of crime prevention efforts.
The Police Department evolved from a single constable on foot patrol into its current form of operation when Lakeville Township and the Village of Lakeville united to become the City of Lakeville.
Today, the Police Department is a modern law enforcement agency led by Police Chief Brad Paulson, who was hired in 2022, with about 73 professional police officers providing a wide range of public safety services. It is constantly seeking ways to improve its efforts, such as implementing a body-worn camera program and a Community Outreach Team. The Police Department is located at 9237 183rd St. W. The Lakeville Fire Department has four fire stations strategically located throughout the city to provide optimal response. The staff includes 62 highly trained paid-on-call firefighters, and 21 full-time firefighters and seven fire administration staff led by Chief Mike Meyer and Assistant Chief Jenell Brooks.
Being involved in the community is important for the department, which participates in Fire Prevention Week, National Night Out and the summer festival, Pan-O-Prog. The department gives tours of the fire stations and makes appearances at block parties and other neighborhood activities. Lakeville’ s firefighters are civic-minded and committed to providing their community the best possible fire protection services.

A key finding from a service area study showed the Dodd Boulevard / Cedar Avenue area is the best location to combine Fire Station 2 and Fire Station 4 into one new, modern facility.
By building a new station in this area, operations can streamline from four stations to three— boosting efficiency, improving response times and lowering long-term costs.
The city purchased 12 acres adjacent to the water tower along 179th Street West for the fire station across from the Central Maintenance Facility. A groundbreaking took place mid-May and construction has started at the new site at 17624 Dodd Blvd.
