My name is Zan Kail, and my story with Radon began in 2017 when I lost my grandmother to lung cancer. What shocked me most was how something so devastating could happen to someone who had never smoked a day in her life. Although that time was incredibly difficult, my family and
I felt it was important to understand the situationand why it happened.
After speaking with several doctors, we learned that Radon gas can cause lung cancer, even in people who do not smoke. Radon was something we had never heard of before, but after further research, we discovered it is very common in the Pittsburgh area, where my grandmother had spent much of her life. Understanding its prevalence, we decided to have her home tested. The results were terrifying: her house tested at more than twice the EPA’s recommended action level. She had been unknowingly living in a Radon-filled home for over 40 years, and it ultimately cost her life.
As tragic as this was, it inspired my dad and me to fully grasp the seriousness of Radon and the impact it can have on thousands of families in Pittsburgh and West Virginia. We didn’t want other families to experience the same pain we did, so we created Home Radon Pros to provide a real solution to Pittsburgh’s Radon problem.
Our vision at Home Radon Pros is; to protect families from the dangers of Radon through Radon mitigation and Radon testing practices; to educate local communities in order to spread the seriousness of Radon to those who are unaware; and to assure families that their health and well-being are safe with quality products and services that will last beyond the first interaction.
Although my family’s experience was painful, my hope is that every family, not only in Pittsburgh and West Virginia, but across the United States, comes to understand the danger Radon poses, and that they know there are solutions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
