Transportation and Parking Awarded in Excellence

Old Dominion University Transportation & Parking Services recently earned two prestigious honors from the International Parking & Mobility Institute( IPMI): the Accredited Parking Organization( APO) with Distinction designation and an Honorable Mention in the 2026 Awards of Excellence.

The APO with Distinction is a designation reserved for organizations that exceed the comprehensive standard of excellence in the industry. This accreditation recognizes best practices in responsible parking management, customer service, professional development, and sustainability. By achieving this status, the department demonstrates a commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
In addition to the accreditation, the department was recognized with an Honorable Mention in the Marketing & Communications category for its studentfocused social media campaigns. The award highlights the 2024 Permit Giveaway, an innovative program that encouraged students to purchase semester parking permits early. By rewarding early planning with permit refunds, the campaign aimed to ease financial pressure for students and minimize parking violations.

IPMI CEO Shawn D. Conrad, CAE, stated that the 2026 winners set a new standard for innovation and efficiency in the industry.
The University was recognized at the 2026 IPMI Parking & Mobility Conference & Expo, held June 14-17 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. ODU’ s achievements will also be spotlighted in the July / August issue of Parking & Mobility magazine.
