2. Stack Small Habits

Pair new habits with routines you already have. After making coffee, stretch for a minute. End meetings with a brief posture reset or breath.

3. Use“ If – Then” Plans

Decide ahead of time how you’ ll respond to stress:
“ If my energy dips, then I’ ll take a short walk.”

4. Normalize Micro-Breaks

Well-being supports productivity. Short breaks help sustain focus and creativity— schedule them like meetings.

5. Build Community Support

Share your system with a colleague or team. Small check-ins and shared wins normalize well-being at work.

From Personal to Campus Systems

The same systems that support individual well-being are essential for campuswide change. As ODU works toward becoming a Health Promoting University, we are designing environments where well-being is built into daily life.

Why Student and Campus Life Staff Matter

Through our programs, spaces, and daily interactions, we shape campus culture. Modeling sustainable well-being shows students that care is a shared value and an institutional commitment.

“ When healthy choices are the default, well-being becomes a shared part of our Monarch culture.”
