Police offer community programs
The Eagan Police Department consists of 79 full-time sworn officers and 18 full- and part-time non-sworn personnel under the direction of Police Chief Salim Omari, who was hired in 2025.
The department offers many crime prevention programs and safety related services, including a Citizens Academy, Advanced Citizens Academy, Teen Citizens Academy, Youth Leadership Academy, Neighborhood Watch, Police Volunteer Programs, and Emergency Preparedness education.
Citizens academies are designed to offer participants insight into modern-day policing through hands-on training conducted by Eagan police officers.
The Citizens Academy runs once a year and will be in March 2027 and includes eight weeks of class Wednesday evenings 6-9 p. m. at the Eagan Police Department.

The Eagan Police Department actively recruits Neighborhood Watch Groups. Group requirements are to meet at least twice a year, appoint a block captain and have at least 50 % neighborhood participation. For more information, contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 651-675-5700.
Eagan Police recently started the SafeCam program, which allows citizens to voluntarily register their security camera locations and voluntarily provide footage to police when an incident has occurred in the area. The Eagan Police Department offers a number of community programs and services to residents, which include specific crime prevention programs and safety-related services. It says it continually strives to develop and promote positive community relations and interaction through proactive policing techniques.
Among the community programs are the Eagan Citizens Crime Prevention Association, Eagan Police Explorers Post No. 9568 and Police Chaplains.
ECCPA is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to assist the Eagan Police Department with its mission of protecting life and property by preventing, solving and reducing crime in Eagan and in providing assistance to victims and families. It was founded in 1985 by Eagan residents and business people.
The Police Explorer Program is designed to give youth ages 14 to 21 years of age an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement. Participants are able to gain knowledge of the law enforcement profession through hands on and classroom instruction.
