Employment
A community’ s employment rate is a key indicator of the local economy. An individual’ s type and level of employment also impacts access to healthcare, work environment, health behaviors and health outcomes. Stable employment can help provide benefits and conditions for maintaining good health. In contrast, poor or unstable work and working conditions are linked to poor physical and mental health outcomes. Work-related stress, injury, and exposure to harmful chemicals are some examples of how certain types of employment can lead to poorer health. 8
