City provides public health services
Bloomington’ s Public Health Department helps residents protect and improve their health and wellbeing through a variety of services and programs.
Whether it’ s through services to individuals and families or policies and programs that improve the population’ s health, the Public Health Department facilitates many health initiatives throughout the year.
The department supports the Opioid Stakeholder Group, which guides the use of opioid settlement dollars in the community, supports a“ Start with Hi” program to address social isolation and works with partners on substance prevention work in the community. Visit blm. mn / hi to learn more.
The department also has a team that helps connect individuals to public health resources as they navigate stages of life.
Many public health services are offered at the Public Health Center, 1900 W. Old Shakopee Road. Preventive services such as health screenings and immunizations are offered at low to no cost. Available services by appointment( weekdays only) include free blood pressure screenings and $ 40 tuberculin skin tests( testing for tuberculosis).
The Public Health Department offers immunizations to individuals who are uninsured or underinsured through the
Minnesota Vaccines for Children program and the Uninsured and Underinsured Adult Vaccines program.
Immunization clinics are offered 12:30-4 p. m. on the first and third Tuesday of the month. There is a $ 20 donation requested per vaccination, although no one will be turned away if unable to pay.
The Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program provides nutrition education, breastfeeding and chestfeeding counseling and food benefits for eligible people who are pregnant, postpartum or have children up to five years of age. To schedule a WIC appointment, call 952-563- 8993.
To bring health services to more residents, Public Health has rolled out a mobile community health hub in the three communities it serves: Bloomington, Edina and Richfield.
