City parks offer something for everyone

At nearly 9,000 acres, more than onethird of Bloomington’ s 38.3 square miles of land and water is dedicated to parks and open space, offering recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities.
This includes large natural areas like the Minnesota River Valley and Hyland-Bush-Anderson Regional Park that are managed through partnerships, volunteers and staff.
Golfers enjoy the city-owned and operated 18-hole Dwan Golf Course.
Recent comprehensive park renovations led to the installation of the city’ s first fully-inclusive playground at Bryant Park, and the first dedicated bike skills course at Tretbaugh Park.
In the summer, Normandale Lake Bandshell and various parks throughout the city host the annual Arts in the Parks series of concerts and other fun, free live entertainment. A free splash pad is available at Cedarcrest Park and Bloomington Family Aquatic Center is a full-featured community pool located at Valley View Park, which is also home to the
Kent Hrbek Youth Baseball Complex and the 500-seat Toro Grandstand at Red
Haddox Baseball Field.
Skaters of all levels are welcomed at Bloomington Ice Garden, which reopened last fall after completing a comprehensive modernization and renovation project.
A new Community Health and Wellness Center at the corner of West 98th Street and Penn Avenue is scheduled to open in 2027 and will feature an aquatic facility, gymnasiums, a fitness center, an indoor play area, community meeting spaces, a café, public health offices and more.
In May, the Nine Mile Creek Corridor renewal project broke ground. The project will bring major natural area restoration and sustainability improvements plus new and improved amenities at Moir Park.
In addition to facilities, programs and park amenities, today more than 260 acres of parkland in Bloomington is being directly managed and restored to its native state by city staff along with partners and volunteers.
Many other recreational options exist within Bloomington’ s parks and facilities. A list of parks and their amenities is available online at blm. mn / bloomington-parks.
