The County Board of Commissioners includes Jim Swenson in District 1, Rick Greene in District 2, Marlys Dunne in District 3, Ben Montzka in District 4 and Dan Dahlberg in District 5. Chase Burnham is the County Administrator. The board meets at 6:30 p. m. every first and third Wednesday of each month in the boardroom, located in the Chisago County Government Center.
Chisago County offers many services through its various departments, each of which has individual contact information listed on the county’ s website( www. chisagocounty. us).
The County Administrator’ s office provides central administration to all the departments and helps operate the county. The Human Resources Department helps attract and retain quality employees, who are focused on the county’ s customers.
Chisago County’ s Health and Human Services department protects the vulnerable citizens of the county and provides individuals with opportunities to enhance their quality of life, including child- and foster-care licensing, child protection, disabilities, mental- and chemical-health issues, veteran services and various forms of economic support.
The Community Corrections Department provides services such as court ordered supervision, bail evaluations, offender-placement coordination, and more. The County Attorney’ s Office prosecutes individuals charged with criminal offenses inside Chisago County.
Arrowhead Transit is the county’ s public-transportation bus service operating within the counties’ borders of Chisago and Isanti counties.
The Parks department offers extensive information about different kinds of recreational opportunities available throughout Chisago County. A separate section on regional recreation in this guide offers a listing of area facilities.
The Assessor Department estimates property values and classifies property for tax purposes.
The County Auditor is responsible for the county’ s financial records such as accounts payable and receivable, as well as publication of the financial statements. The auditor also supervises elections, including those on a local, state and national level.
The County’ s Environmental Services Department administers all county zoning, solid-waste, shore-land and septic ordinances, as well as the Wetland Conservation Act and prohibited-animals law. Residents may also want to check out the Hazardous Waste Facility, where they can drop off materials that can’ t be recycled or placed with garbage.

Additionally, the county’ s departments also include MICS, which deals with technology; Public Works, which manages the highway system; the Recorder’ s Office, who keeps real-estate records; and the Treasurer’ s Office, which collects real-estate and personal-property taxes.
The Chisago County Sheriff’ s Office provides law enforcement and protection services to a growing population of about 50,000 permanent residents, as well as tourists and cabin owners during peak season – an area 444 square miles in size. The department’ s 90 employees include patrol deputies, correction officers, dispatchers, bailiffs, courthouse security and clerical staff. The Chisago County Sheriff’ s Office makes it a mission to provide responsive patrol support, effective investigations of serious crime and incidents and a secure custodial facility for inmates. Its overall vision is to help maintain a high quality of life through public-safety excellence.
