Digital Music Composition II [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection process: Digital Music Composition I Intended audience: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Learn the foundations of music theory- melody, chord, structure, form
• Understand the elements of creating or modifying digital music
• Analyze and evaluate music
• Have an understanding of basic recording techniques
• Learn the foundations of acoustics Project, activities, etc.: Project based learning, independent work, collaborative environment with teachers Instructional focus: Final portfolio demonstrating various forms, styles, and compositional techniques
Dance Technique I [ AHS only ] Intended audience: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Students will develop their strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and memory in relationship to a variety of dance styles.
• Students will learn basic technique of a variety of dance styles including jazz, musical theater, ballet and contemporary
• Students will develop performance skills needed to confidently create and present dance choreography
• Students will grow in their abilities to work as both a soloist as well as part of an ensemble
Instructional focus: This course focuses on developing a body of work to be performed at end-of-trimester dance concerts. This course partially satisfies the arts requirement.
Dance Technique II [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection process: Dance Technique I OR at least 3 years of dance training Intended audience: Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 Credit: One Trimester =. 5 credit Major outcomes:
• Students will deepen their understanding of a variety of technical styles including jazz, ballet, contemporary, musical theater, as well as opportunities to work with professional guest artists
• Students will continue to develop their choreographic skills and create works to be presented through both traditional and nontraditional performance opportunities Instructional focus: This course focuses on developing a body of work to be performed at end-of-trimester dance concerts. This course partially satisfies the arts requirement
Dance Company [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection process: Dance Technique II OR at least 4 years of dance training Intended audience: Grades 10, 11, and 12 Credit: One trimester =. 5 credit Major outcomes:
• Students will explore deeper technical styles such as contemporary, jazz, ballet, musical theater and styles presented by guest artists
• Students will focus on both the advanced physical practice and the history and choreographic techniques unique to the selected styles
• Students will continue to develop their artistic voices through student generated choreography and have the opportunity to explore inter-disciplinary modes of presenting dance and choreography Instructional focus: This course would focus on developing a body of work to be performed at the end-of-trimester dance concert as well as throughout the community. This course partially satisfies the arts requirement. Course can be taken up to three times
Engineering and Robotics [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection process: None Intended audience: Grades 9- 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Design, build, and program mobile robots
• Utilize design thinking to solve engineering related problems
• Incorporate multiple technologies and software in creative applications
Projects, activities, etc.: Hands on activities and group projects Instructional focus: Use hands on and practical building skills to design and apply engineering principles to solve robotics challenges
Engineering Smart Technology [ AHS only ] Prerequisite / Selection process: None
Intended audience: Grades 9- 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Design, build, and program microcontroller sensors platforms
• Utilize design thinking to solve engineering related problems
• Incorporate multiple technologies and software in creative applications
Projects, activities, etc.: Hands on activities and group projects Instructional focus: Use hands on and practical building skills to design and apply engineering principles to solve environmental sensing challenges. Co-curricular connection: Robotics club
Introduction to Cybersecurity [ AHS Only ] [ Students may earn Articulated College Credit ] Intended audience: Grades 10, 11, and 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Explore what cybersecurity is and what it means for you personally and professionally
• Learn how to be safe online by understanding the most common threats, attacks and vulnerabilities
• Find out how businesses protect their operations from cyber attacks and why jobs are growing

Honors Arts Symposium: The Chemistry of Art [ AHS only ] Intended audience: Grades 11 and 12 Credit: One trimester = 0.5 credit Major outcomes:
• Learn and directly apply the elements of art and principles of design
• Explore a secondary discipline; noting the connections with art( ex. chemistry, specifically chemical reactions to metals and other materials used in jewelry design
• Apply design thinking method to create solutions to various design challenges
• Design and create works that become part of an e-portfolio
Project, activities, etc.: Exploration of materials, original design work, development of art skills( ex. creating patinas on metal, use of jewelry equipment, designing original wearable art) Instructional focus: Design thinking, makerspace equipment, student collaboration, student-driven and project-based design challenges, industry tours, guest speakers
