ADMISSIONS: UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS
First-time Students
All traditional first year applicants that have not attended any other college or university post-high School graduation must submit the following:
• Online application found at https:// apply. gmercyu. edu / apply /, Niche Direct Admissions or the Common Application. Students should complete only one application for admission consideration.
• Evidence of high school graduation, which can be demonstrated through an official transcript, home school accrediting body transcript, or a copy of their General Educational Development( GED) test results or certificate.
• The minimum GPA requirement for university admission is a 2.5 / 4.0 cumulative unweighted GPA. Although the student is accepted to the university, some programs require a higher cumulative unweighted GPA Additionally, the university honors program has admission requirements above and beyond the university minimum. Gwynedd Mercy University reserves the right to rescind admission should the final official transcript( s) reflect a cumulative GPA lower than 2.5.
Gwynedd Mercy University is test blind, which means students may apply with or without submitting scores from the ACT or SAT. Standardized test scores are not required and are not used in the admission decision. If submitted, standardized test scores may be used to support class placement.
Students that are below the minimum requirements for admission will not be accepted to the University. The admission decision of a denial may be appealed within the initial term for which a student applies. This appeal should include an updated transcript with grades as well as a personal statement which speaks to the student’ s desire to be a part of the campus community and their hopeful contributions. Appeals will be reviewed by a committee and updated decisions will be made within 2 weeks of the receipt of all materials.
Once a student’ s application file is complete, the Admissions team makes a decision based on University admissions standards and any specific requirements of the applicant’ s intended program of study. The student is notified of the decision as soon as possible after the requirements listed above have been met.
U. S. citizenship or permanent residency is a requirement for licensure within certain academic programs. International students and students who are under DACA status or are undocumented should carefully review the licensure requirements for their state before enrolling in a degree program that leads to licensure. Additional information can be found on the National Conference of State Legislatures website. In addition, some programs also require a background check to complete experiential learning requirements, such as clinicals and student teaching. The background check requires a U. S. Social Security Number.
