Promoting Global Health Thru Comm Engage |
Promoting Global Health through Community Engagement is an interdisciplinary global servicelearning course. Students will research Jamaican society and culture, education, health, and mental health systems and develop health / mental health education trainings and activities for adolescent residents of Mustard Seed Communities in Kingston, Jamaica. This experiential learning course prepares students to apply public health education and psychoeducation skills in a global setting, therefore participation in the 8-day international travel is a mandatory requirement of the course( students will complete the course in spring and travel in summer). Eligible students must have a major or minor in public health, a major in psychology, or a minor in counseling and interpersonal relations. 3 credits. PUB Pre- or Co-Requisites: PUB-240 or PUB-310, and PUB-200 PSY Pre-Requisites: PSY 100 |

This course is designed to afford senior psychology majors a practical experience in the application of psychological theory and research. With the recommendation of the psychology faculty and the approval of the program coordinator, students may work in a 40-hour-per-credit practicum opportunity.
