Generative Artificial Intelligence Policy
Option 1: Use Prohibited Students are prohibited from using advanced automated tools( artificial intelligence or machine learning tools such as ChatGPT or Dall-E 2) on assignments in this course. Each student is expected to complete each assignment without substantive assistance from others, including automated tools. Any unauthorized use of AI would be considered cheating and a violation of Gwynedd Mercy University’ s Academic Integrity Policy.
Example
• Copying or offering unauthorized assistance on tests, quizzes, examinations, reports, papers, or research. Copying and posting verbatim text from GenAI.
• Deception to avoid meeting course requirements.
• Fabrication is the falsification or invention of any information or citation in an academic exercise. ChatGPT frequently hallucinates references. Use of these references would be a fabrication.
• Plagiarism is to present the words or ideas of another person as one’ s own.
Option 2: Use only with Prior Permission Students are allowed to use advanced automated tools( GenAI or machine learning tools such as ChatGPT or Dall-E 2) on assignments in this course if instructor permission is obtained in advance. Unless given permission to use those tools, each student is expected to complete each assignment without substantive assistance from others, including automated tools.
Option 3: Use Permitted with Acknowledgement Students are allowed to use advanced automated tools( GenAI or machine learning tools such as ChatGPT or Dall-E 2) on assignments in this course if that use is properly documented and credited. Students are expected to properly cite AI-generated content as required by their respective faculty / instructor’ s guidelines.
An example of how this could be done: text generated using ChatGPT-3 should include a citation such as:“ Chat-GPT-3.( YYYY, Month DD of query).“ Text of your query.” Generated using OpenAI. https:// chat. openai. com /” Material generated using other tools should follow a similar citation convention.
Format: Author, A. A.( Year, Month Day). Title of the chat [ Generative AI chat ]. AI Tool Name( Version). URL.
Example:( ChatGPT): OpenAI.( 2025, December 4). Explain the concept of sociology. [ Generative AI chat ]. ChatGPT( GPT-4). https:// chat. openai. com / share / a1b2c3d4-e5f6-7890-1234- 567890abcdef.
Option 4: Use is Freely Permitted with No Acknowledgement Students are allowed to use advanced automated tools( GenAI or machine learning tools such as ChatGPT or Dall-E 2) on assignments in this course; no special documentation or citation is required.
