DEFINITIONS OF TERMS
Program Modality Online Program: 100 % of the program is offered using online technologies.
On-ground Program: The majority of the instruction is to students through on-ground, face-to-face meetings with the flexibility for instruction in other modalities.
Hybrid Program: The program is offered via a blended combination of online and on ground classroom instruction, with no more than 50 % of the coursework being offered online.
Course Modality
Face-to-Face Course A course in which instruction is delivered in person at a designated location and scheduled time. Any online components are supplemental and do not replace required classroom seat time.
Hybrid( Blended) Course A course in which a portion of in-person( face-to-face) instructional time is replaced with online learning activities, such that students are required to participate in both modalities. Hybrid courses include regular and substantive interaction between students and the instructor and require scheduled on-campus meetings as well as online engagement. The percentage of instruction delivered online is significant but does not meet the threshold of a fully distance education course.
Online Asynchronous Course A course in which 100 % of instruction is delivered online and students engage with course materials on their own schedule within established deadlines. There are no required real-time class sessions. The course includes regular and substantive interaction between the instructor and students in this asynchronous way.
Online Synchronous Course A course in which 100 % of instruction is delivered online and students are required to attend scheduled, real-time class sessions using web-based technologies. The course includes live, structured, and synchronous interaction between students and the instructor.
Student Type
Full-Time Student: traditional programs: Undergraduate students taking 12 or more credits. Online programs: all students taking courses which are part of their degree requirements. Graduate students take 6- credits
Part-Time Student: traditional programs: Undergraduate students taking fewer than 12 credits. Online programs: students taking courses outside of their degree requirements. Graduate fewer than 9.
