Non-Academic Criteria for Admission, Progression and Retention Compliance Requirements and Clearances Required for All Fieldwork:
Child Abuse History Clearance All students enrolled in the Education Programs are required to have a Child Abuse History Clearance. This is accomplished by completing a Child Abuse History Clearance Form. Application is available online at https:// www. compass. state. pa. us / cwis / publich / home. A copy of the form must be submitted to the Field Experience Coordinator by the beginning of each academic year.
Criminal Record Check All students enrolled in the Education Programs are required to have a Criminal History Record Check. This is accomplished by completing a Request for Criminal Record Check form. Forms are available online at: https:// epatch. pa. gov / home. A copy of the form must be submitted to the Field Experience Coordinator before the first day of class.
FBI Fingerprinting Check All students in the Education Programs are required to submit an FBI Record. The registration information is available online at: https:// www. indentogo. com / Service Code: 1KG6RT
TB( Tuberculosis Test Validation) Proof of a TB test must be delivered to the Field Work Coordinator at the beginning of each academic year.
Act 24 Arrest / Conviction Certification Form See the Field Placement Coordinator to obtain this form.
The background checks described above require students to have a U. S. Social Security Number.
Professional Disposition The Pennsylvania Department of Education has the responsibility to the educational community to ensure that individuals whom Gwynedd Mercy University recommends to the State of Pennsylvania for certification are qualified to join the education profession. Teaching requires non-academic competencies, which are as critical to success as those in the academic domain. Proficiencies in these competencies results from the combination of successful completion of University coursework and field / internship experiences and the demonstration of important dispositions that all educators must exhibit.
These skills will be formally assessed during the student’ s preparation program. The schedule for these assessments is part of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Professional Studies’ University Assessment Plan. In addition, the assessments will be conducted at any time during the advising process when an advisor determines a formal process needs to be implemented to support the student’ s growth and ultimate professional success.
The assessment tool, Assessment of Professional Education Disposition( implemented with permission from UNC Charlotte— Summer 2017), will become the basis for professional growth when the advisor deems a formal intervention is warranted for a student at risk for success.
