Fifteen Years of PPMI Changing the Future of Parkinson’ s Together
Fifteen years ago, the Parkinson’ s Progression Markers Initiative( PPMI) set out with a bold mission: to find better ways to measure Parkinson’ s disease and speed new treatments by creating the largest Parkinson’ s biobank. PPMI helped create a groundbreaking test for misfolded alpha-synuclein and validated two PD risk factors: smell loss and REM sleep behavioral disorder.
PPMI has changed how we understand Parkinson’ s disease.

Your participation is essential. Learn more about joining PPMI at michaeljfox. org / ppmi. Researchers are working to bring in more volunteers to help us learn faster and reach our big goals. People at risk for PD can help scientists detect and treat the disease much sooner, and people living with PD are key to unlocking the disease’ s complex biology and ensuring future therapies work for everyone.
“ This study has grown so much. It’ s no longer just about tracking progression; PPMI works to find and match the right therapies for each person,” said PPMI co-investigator Thomas Tropea, DO, MPH, MSTR.“ We need more people— younger people, people with different symptoms— to join us in the next era of PPMI.”
